My Church Likes Me

And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. [Luke 2:52]

My church likes me. My pastor, parents, board members- they all seem to like me. In my first months I assumed it was because I was in the pastoral honeymoon phase. But two years later I still have favor in my church. So I ask the very question that anyone would ask. Why?

I don’t think our ministry is heeding unparalleled success– sure we’re doing a good job, but nothing to force anyone’s hand. I’m not compromising myself to be liked. I honor my pastor. I respect my elders. I am thankful to my church.

So when I see others who are in unfortunate situations where they are not respected, appreciated, or liked as a pastor in their church I ask myself, “what am I doing right?”

But I don’t think it’s because of anything that I’m doing, I think I’m just working with some of the best people on earth. So I give my best and they give their best.

So in conclusion, I’m not sure why I’m favored- but I’m thankful that I am. And I’m thankful to be a part of this church.

What are you doing to make your church the best place to be in the world?

To be in a place where your valued & appreciated in a church is huge. Brad & I have been in places where we’ve been treated very well, & other places where we haven’t been treated well. It’s in the places where it’s hard to be to have joy & peace from the Father. I have learned that God sometimes leads us into those unlovely places for a purpose & a plan, & it’s my job to make the most out of it. I’m trying to love the unlovable, speak kind words no matter what, & show God’s grace & receive it as well.
