My wife and I had a couple of students over for dinner on Monday night. It was fun to sit-down, talk, and laugh for a couple of hours. During this time I remembered some truths about teenagers: Teenagers are storytellers. They like recounting stories from their lives, no matter how seemingly insignificant it might be. [...]

1 in 3 Trinity: Energy Drink Fused with Fruit of the Spirit.
March 30th, 2010
joshherndon My dad was given this at a men’s convention: Firstly, wow. Secondly, I have three questions for 1 in 3 Trinity: 1 in 3? I’m pretty sure that’s heretical. Only 10 Calories? With 1000 mg of taurine? Is that possible? Energy drink “fused” with the spirit. I’m pretty sure that’s a sin. Related Posts:Pastors, Politics, [...]
Dad's Advice [The Rest of the Story]
March 29th, 2010
joshherndon As I posted earlier, as a boy I never liked working with my dad on the car… until my car was busted and the mechanic wanted $300. So yesterday I went to visit and learned how to replace the AC, power steering, and transmission belts. (I took pictures so my wife would be impressed). It [...]
Sam Harris on CNN
March 29th, 2010
joshherndon Sam’s Take: Philosopher Sam Harris recently did a piece for CNN in which he claimed that religion is distracting people from real moral dilemmas. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMSwQJr-mhc] My Take: I agree that we need to not only talk about, but take action in various social justice causes. And for Sam Harris to generalize a billion religious people [...]
How to Build from a Great Service
March 27th, 2010
joshherndon We had a groundbreaking service at CSM FRIDAY NIGHTS (our youth service) last night! Students were praying for each other, lingering after the service to worship, and tears were everywhere. One student, who I don’t think is a believer said “this is amazing, how God is working in people’s lives”. Where Jesus is, no one can leave unchanged!
But a great service begs the question, what about next week? How do I build from this service so it doesn’t become an isolated experience? Here’s what I think:
The Rule of Thirds is DOA
March 27th, 2010
joshherndon I made a video for CSM FRIDAY NIGHTS and had only enough battery for one take. Turns out my one chance had my head out of the picture for most of the time. How do you resolve such a dilemma? Make fun of yourself. Enjoy! My 10 Failures
March 26th, 2010
joshherndon I’ve failed a few times this past week. Here’s 10 that come to mind: I’ve gone out to eat more than my budget told me I could. I have yet to fix my car. I canceled a coffee-meeting with a student. Our life group meeting didn’t meet. I didn’t go grocery shopping (so now my [...]
Prayer Ruined My Life
March 25th, 2010
joshherndon A friend of mine shared some prayers that ruined her life. Here were my favorites: Prayer #1- “I want to see people the way You do” I prayed this at the start of my second round at school. It. Rocked. My. Heart. I couldn’t go a day without being affected. My love for this city [...]
2 Types of Retreats Every Group Needs to Do
March 24th, 2010
joshherndon I like Lasting Student Ministry’s 2 Types of Retreats Every Group Needs to Do. He believes that every group needs to do two types of retreats. Many focus mainly on one of these types, but miss the importance and the benefit of the other type of retreats. Here are the two types of retreats: Solo-Group [...]
What Prayer Usually Sounds Like [Video]
March 23rd, 2010
joshherndon An intro video we made on what prayer usually sounds like …more often than not. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yuv7EghY-Ks] We’re doing a series called “Masters” where we are learning about and practicing the spiritual disciplines. This past week was on prayer when we instigated the Take 10 Challenge. So far, it’s been a smashing success. Who knew that [...]
